I don't like that people leave our site when following a link in a user's post. I add the code to the source for my posts, but I can't expect users to do that,.

Thanks, V

Kevin Fielding: Hi, I apologize for the delayed response. This is actually a browser setting. You are correct in that users have the choice via the source window. But, if a user does not know how or chooses not to specify, the browser default setting will either target a new window, new tab or re-direct within the current window.

ADAMateo: It should be fairly easy to customize the hyperlink feature to give an option for new window vs. current window, though, right? Upon submitting, the system could just add the "target=_blank" script to the href or not, depending upon what was chosen...

YSC Website Manager: Hi Kevin, this came up again recently. Can you explain to me how this is a browser setting? I've already suggested to people that when the open links in the community they right click on them and choose "new tabo" or "New window". Is this possible to control via their browser settings? And, if so, is that the best solution as it will apply to all sites that they use? I like ADAMateos suggestion that it be incorporated into the hyperlink feature much like in many CMSs.

    Thanks, Virginia

Kevin Fielding: Hi Virginia, essentially many browser (IE and FFX specifically) have settings that allow users to choose whether links open in new windows vs. new tabs, etc. You are right that users can manually choose this regardless of any settings by right click -> new tab/window. I can't specifically comment on whether browser settings will apply to all sites someone may browse because many sites have hard coded links to target new windows vs. not, for example. We've kept this request on file only because there is a readily available workaround for what you desire, but I will make sure to review your request with our product management team for inclusion in upcoming updates. Hope this response is helpful and happy holidays!
