Do you have some feedback for us? If there is any components of our software you would like to see added or changed feel free to post your thoughts here. We'd encourage you to be as clear as possible about why you like or don't like certain features so that other clients can weigh in with their thoughts as well. Also feel free to suggest that we actually remove certain components of the system that just aren't getting enough traction for you. All feedback is welcome!

User deactivates their own account

A few clients have asked for the ability for users to remove themselves from the community.  Since this is an admin only function one solution is to include a link on the user's settings page to send a request to deactivate account.  This link would notify administrators that the user wishes to be removed from the community.  Please lend support via comments if you would like to see this feature as well.

Thanks,
Kevin

CCS_Heather: I think this would be useful to us also.

Wondering if there are differences between someone asking to be "removed" versus someone asking to be "deactivated"? When you deactivate someone does all of the content they created disappear, or just that you can't access anything in their personal profile (e.g., profile info, personal blog, comments people have made on their profile).

Kevin Fielding: Hi Heather, in our system you can deactivate a user which matches your latter explanation (can not access their profile). We also have the capability to ban and delete users, which will also remove all content they have created.

"Removing" a user can really mean either and it would probably depend on why the user wanted to be removed. If they didn't want to be found in the site at all you'd probably want to ban and delete them, for example. However, in either case the link on the user dashboard would simply allow a user to request to be removed to the site and the admin can determine the appropriate action from there.

Sophie M.: Kevin, will deactivating (as opposed to banning/deleting) disable all communication from our site to the user? In particular, email notification for bulletins/friend requests/messages?

Kevin Fielding: Hi Sophie, yes deactivating does disable the e-mail notices going to that account. Thanks!
