Would it be possible for the createUser API, when it is used with an email address that already exists, to return the ID of that user instead of just failing by saying the email already exists?

cameron: the logic behind it is that the getUser API requires the User ID, so there is no way to check if a user already exists before calling the createUser API, and no way of updating a user unless you just created it successfully and were given an ID. i guess a better request would be to create a new API that returns the ID
