changing the order of photos in an album
Once photos have been uploaded in an album it doesn't seem possible to change their order. Would it be possible to add this functionality?
Kevin Fielding

Hey Heather, I'll review this with our product team for possible inclusion in an upcoming release. For now I'll mark this as pending review until we have a chance to review. Thanks for the suggestions!

Ability to search content of discussions
I just heard that the search feature does not seach content of discussions! Was told to request this as a feature request, please can we have this amended?
thanks - Heather at CCS
Kevin Fielding
:
Hi Heather,
I think there is a bit of a disconnect here because we currently do allow discussions to be searched. You can see the search area on the right rail of most discussions pages that will search in context of what you are viewing (e.g. one discussion, all discussions, etc.). What I believe you may be referring to is when someone searches using the enterprise search at the top of the site - we do not show discussions results. This is a design decision made because the search results were completely dominated with discussion posts, making it difficult to find users, groups, documents and other useful content. Is this in line with your understanding?
Thanks,Kevin
CCS_Heather
:
yes (and no). Although there is an ability to search discussions separately, I dont think users would intuitively understand this (i.e., that there are two different kinds of search, one that is "enterprise" and one that is related to the discussions only and there is no cross-over in functionality) so am wondering how other Port clients are explaining this nuance to their users. We find our users are very unhappy with how difficult the platform is to use already - they do not find it user friendly or intuitive. This would likely be another example.
Kevin Fielding
:
Hi Heather - First, I'm sorry your user base is having trouble with the platform. I'd love to hear your ideas on how to improve the user experience and we do not take these suggestions lightly. For this particular suggestion I definitely understand what you are saying. Originally upon launch discussions results were returned by any site keyword search. We felt that search as a whole suffered by this design due to the enormous amount of text based content within discussions. Virtually every pertinent keyword would return 50+ discussions results in an active community, making it very difficult to use keyword search to find other important content. As far as our other clients I can't necessarily speak for how they might communicate to their users, but I can say I really haven't heard a ton of feedback on the positive or negative front regarding discussions search. I hope this helps explain why the decision was made. I'm not necessarily saying this will never change, but I do think simply adding discussions back into the overall site search may not be ideal.

Hey Rob, we've heard this request in the past and we will open this capability up to administrators. I'm not sure on an exact release time frame just yet, but we will let you know when we have one.

Admin Ability to Remove a Post
Hi there -
I was told by the Support team that Administrators no longer have the ability to remove a post -- I find this a little unnerving and hope that this function will be restored ASAP.

:
Hi Jessica, this is actually a bug and was not removed by design. We have a fix scheduled for our next minor release September 13. Until that time though, as a workaround, you do still have the ability to impersonate the user who authored the post and remove it. We are also happy to remove the posts for you in the interim if you submit a support ticket. I understand these workarounds are not ideal and we apologize for the inconvenience, but this will be fixed going forward as of 9/13.

Thank goodness!!! Thanks, Kevin.

Save as Draft
Would it be possible for members to save a Discussion board post as a draft?
Thanks! ~Jessica
Kevin Fielding
:
Hi Jessica, its certainly something we could consider, but just to share why we haven't done this in the past. We feel that topics often range on a variety of subjects, and if one were to save a post as a draft and return later their reply may be completely out of context by the time it is posted. Out of curiosity, what is the main reason your members seem to want this feature?
Thanks,
Kevin
Jessica
:
Hi Kevin - The reason our members requested this function is because they often refer to older posts on different parts of the board when writing a response. The ability to check such 'references' without losing what they've written would be useful.
thank you! ~Jessica

Personally, when I need to reference another post, I just open another tab in my browser, so I can have multiple tabs open. Certainly, I can have multiple tabs open at once and copy or a URL from one post to use in another. I wonder if that would be too confusing to suggest to your users.
ADACarolyn
:
I meant to say, "copy text or a URL".

That's a great suggestion, ADACarolyn! Thanks for the input!

One example of a problem I'm trying to deal with.
There is a company that's a "infrastructure as a service" company. They have a large range of IPs that are assigned to their hosting facilities... so that address range should never be posting comments to our site. Yet I'm seeing spam comments coming from that address range (173.192.0.0/15.)
The IPs of comments that have been reported are scattered over that range. That's only the comments that have been directly reported and I've been able to track down an IP Address, there are bound to be more I've missed. (by the way, yhank you for including the IP Address in the results returned by the getComments API call, I've been fighting this issue for months with no clear solution.)
There are also other webhosting/colo facilities where I'm seeing the same behavior.
Being able to just add the CIDR range for the colo/webhost would go a long way to reducing my workload in battling comment spam.

Thanks for sharing gadgeteer. We'll review this request for future product road-mapping. For now I'm going to mark this as pending review.

If this feature can't be implemented anytime soon is there a way to get bulk loaded ip addresses? I'd really like to stem the spam comments from webhosting facilities... unfortunately it's way to easy to move your server to a new IP Address as the vendors and and I'm in a constantly losing race to keep the spammers out.
Kevin Fielding
:
Hi gadgeteer, currently that option does not exist. One option that we may be able to implement sooner is exposing ban by IP via an API. That would allow you to write a script to ban all IPs in a given range. Would that work?

Was this update to include IPAddress done? the call to

isn't returning that field at this point?
Not sure it'll help but the ObjectType tags in the result look like:

ThePortBusiness.RemoteComment, ThePortBusiness, Version=2008.12.18.17, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null

ok, between the time I posted this and went back to deal with other issues I see the new IpAddress tag being included on the results of the web service call... thanks.
