    Unjoining
    By Sophie M.
Is there a way for individual users to unjoin our network? I'm looking for a self-serve way for them to do this without me having to go into the admin panel and deactivate/ban/delete them, but haven't seen any possibilities.

    Hey Sophie,

We don't currently have this functionality.  However, even if we were to build something for this need I'm not sure if would meet your needs.  Registration in your site, as is fairly common for our clients, is handled by a 3rd party system.  We simply mirror the information housed in that system when a user visits the community pages.

Out of curiosity where is the need arising from?  Do people just not want profiles after signing up or are you trying to remove all content they've created?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

It's more that they don't want profiles after they've signed up. We've had a couple users say they couldn't find a way to "unjoin," primarily because they were not able to turn off all email notifications. (Deselecting all email notifications on the My Settings page still leaves several types of emails that cannot be turned off, e.g. New Wiki Entry.) We've just been deactivating/banning/deleting based on their preferences. We were wondering if there was an unjoin feature we were just overlooking. Sounds like we'll need to keep manually deleting anyone who asks.

Also, perhaps you don't know the answer to this and I'd need to ask someone from the 3rd party system (Convio) but when I delete someone's record on our site, does it delete their corresponding Convio record as well? Or just the Port/Activist Network record?

    Thanks!

Ah yes in that case they will have to be manually removed from the system.  To your second question, no - deleting a user from the community will not impact their record in Convio.  The two systems have separate user management and we tie them together just by reading user profile information (first name, last name, e-mail, etc.) from Convio's side.  Hope this helps!

Sorry I'm a little late on this one, but another suggestion is to add a link on the user dashboard that says 'click here to deactivate your account' (something like that).  A mailto: window can then pop up and send an email to the community admin to deactivate/ban/delete the user.  It would be template work that you all can undertake or have us do as a customiaztion.  We've had a couple of clients do that in the past as well and it seems to have helped nicely.  Just a thought!

Hi Kyle - can we put that in as a feature request? I know it would be helpful to us, too, and sounds like several of your clients have already needed it. Perhaps it's something that should be available as part of the platform
